Hands-On Workshops

Engage directly with master artisans in intimate workshops. You'll have the chance to create your own batik piece, guided by experts who have honed their skills over generations. This is a unique opportunity to connect with the craft on a personal level.

Enjoy a private excursion to Tongli Water Town, followed by an exclusive Suzhou silk embroidery workshop led by a master artisan.


Indigo tie-dyeing

Bai tie-dye mainly focuses on indigo-dye using vegetations like Isais root and Lithospermum as natural dye. We will be involved in the process and learn from local elders. While having a coffee, we will admire the beautiful blue fabrics drying in the wind

In the heart of Guizhou, traditional batik dyeing is more than just a craft; it's a vibrant expression of culture and history. Join us as we explore the intricate processes and rich stories behind this ancient art form, where every pattern tells a tale.

Jiama Woodblock Printing 

Jiama woodblock printing workshop takes you inside the Bai-style wooden houses, explaining the logic behind their unique design. Then it introduces you to Jiama woodblock printing, revealing how this ancient ritual art is woven into local ceremonies. And perhaps best of all, you get to print your own piece of Bai heritage to take home — a souvenir you can use and remember

  • What is included in the tour itinerary?

    Our itinerary includes visits to artisan workshops, UNESCO World Heritage sites, private textile demonstrations, high-quality accommodation, and transport between locations in China. Expert local guides accompany every step to provide cultural insights.

  • How large are the tour groups?

    Groups are intentionally small (a maximum of 10 on the 2026 tour) to limit the number of guests, which ensures personalised experiences and intimate access to artisans and cultural sites.

  • What should I expect during the workshops?

    Workshops offer hands-on opportunities to observe and participate in traditional textile techniques guided by master artisans in authentic settings. The workshops are designed to allow sufficient time for projects to be completed.

  • Are accommodations and transport included?

    The tour includes carefully selected boutique hotels and all transportation within China, including domestic flights, high-speed trains, and vehicle transport. We ensure comfort and convenience throughout your journey.

  • What does the tour cost?

    The 2026 tour cost is AUD$6,600 per person (inc GST, twin share, excluding international return flights to Shanghai, personal spending, and meals not included in the trip details). There is an extra cost for single room accommodation.

  • What are the 2026 tour dates?

    10-26 October 2026. For clarity, you will need to arrive, or be in, Shanghai on 10 October 2026 which is Day 1 of the tour.

  • What tours are planned for 2027?

    In 2027, two tours are being developed. At this stage, one will be in the first half of the year, and the second will probably be in the September/October period.
